What Is Chinese E-Learning Technology Standard Committee (CELTSC)?

To determine and spread Chinese E-Learning Technology Standard, a work group named CELTSC (Chinese E-Learning Technology Standard Committee) was founded in 2001 under the sponsorship of Ministry of Education in China. The committee is chaired by Professor Zhiting Zhu of East China Normal University, and Professor Yuanshun Shi of Tsinghua University is the secretary-general. Members of the committee include professors from Tsinghua University, East China Normal University, Beijing University, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hunan University, South China University of Technology, to name a few, as well as some government officials.

In future, industry representatives will also be considered for membership, so as to make the committee an umbrella organization that is meant to provide standards reviewed by different kind of people and led to wide ranging consensus. The foundation of the committee is a reflection that the government's attention toward normalized Web-based education in the new century, its awareness of the urgency in calling for E-Learning standards, as well as its willingness to provide financial support and policy priority.
